Patrick Mahomes has stirred up quite the online frenzy this Thanksgiving.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, famous for his unshakable love of ketchup, starred in a new Adidas commercial that has fans either laughing or cringing.
The culprit? His unapologetic decision to smother his turkey dinner in the tomato condiment.
A Candle-Lit Feast Gets an Unusual Twist
In the commercial, Mahomes sits at a cozy, candle-lit table laden with traditional Thanksgiving fare.
He begins with a heartfelt sentiment: “Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, return home, see family, and meet new friends.”
Then, seemingly forgetting conventional table manners, he reaches for the ketchup bottle.
Moments later, he drenches a turkey leg in the sauce and quips, “Thanksgiving, is a time to eat.”
For some viewers, this playful rebellion against tradition was simply shocking.
Fans React With Shock and Amusement
Social media erupted with reactions. Many were baffled by Mahomes’ condiment choice.
One fan exclaimed, “Did he put ketchup on that turkey leg???” Another concluded bluntly, “Disgusting!” Some tried to reason with humor: “Bro ketchup on the turkey?
Come on, man,” while others joked about the Chiefs’ upcoming Thanksgiving matchup, suggesting, “Just by him doing that, the Chiefs will lose.”
Supporters Stand by Mahomes’ Ketchup Obsession
Not everyone was appalled. Some fans openly cheered on Mahomes’ unconventional culinary habits.
“I also put ketchup on everything. Lol Must be an East Texas thing,” one wrote.
Another celebrated the moment with, “The Return of the Ketchup. lol love it PM! Go Chiefs!”
A Ketchup Legacy Since Childhood
Mahomes’ love of ketchup isn’t new. In 2018, he became a brand ambassador for Hunt’s Tomatoes and Ketchup.
He has previously admitted to adding the sauce to “controversial” foods like steak and macaroni and cheese, and even fondly remembers eating ketchup sandwiches as a child.
“People seem to think that’s a weird thing,” Mahomes said in a past interview about his ketchup experiments.
“Some people think that’s disgusting, but it’s good to me.”
Preparing for a Thanksgiving Showdown
Beyond condiments and commercials, Mahomes and the Chiefs are focused on the football field.
They head into their crucial Thanksgiving matchup against the Dallas Cowboys following a much-needed win against the Indianapolis Colts last weekend, hoping to build momentum for the season ahead.
