A South Carolina judge abruptly shut down the entire case, ruling that the indictments never should have moved forward in the first place.

In a sharply worded decision, Judge Cameron Currie said the indictments were tainted by mistakes inside the grand jury process, describing them as the result of “prosecutorial misconduct.”
According to the ruling, the errors were serious enough that the charges simply couldn’t stand.

Part of the judge’s reasoning centered on Lindsey Halligan—the attorney Trump personally backed.
