Tom Swarbrick, the This Morning and LBC presenter, has revealed the terrifying ordeal his wife and eight-year-old daughter faced in Kent after a man allegedly spat at his wife during a road rage incident.
Speaking openly on air for the first time, Swarbrick described the scene as “absolutely unacceptable” and said it left his young daughter “in pieces on the floor.”
The Incident on a Rural Lane
According to Swarbrick, the incident unfolded when his wife was driving their daughter down a narrow rural lane.
“She stopped to let another driver pass,” he explained.
“Then a man pulled up alongside her, told her to wind down her window, and launched into a tirade of expletives.
And then he spat at her. Phlegm and all.”
He added that his wife had tried to move aside to let the man pass, and they had never had any prior encounter with him. “Our daughter was terrified.
She’s eight, and she just broke down,” Swarbrick said.
He also highlighted the gendered nature of the attack: “I don’t think this would happen if I had been driving, or if Ben Shephard had been driving.
This happened because it was a woman on her own.”
Witnesses and Police Action
Thankfully, Swarbrick explained that a witness came forward to help identify the culprit.
“I mentioned it on my LBC show, and a woman got in touch who had been in the car behind him,” he said.
“She was incredibly helpful to the police, and Kent Police have been very supportive throughout.”
The broadcaster has also taken to social media to appeal for information.
On his Instagram story, he addressed the man responsible: “To the middle-aged white man who spat in my wife’s face, in front of our daughter, in Tunbridge Wells this afternoon… we are going to find out who you are.”
Gratitude Amid the Ordeal
Despite the frightening experience, Swarbrick expressed gratitude toward those who assisted his family.
He praised the witness and thanked the police for their swift action, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
