A tragic accident in the Dominican Republic has left a rising baseball hopeful fighting for his life.
Antonio Jimenez, a 24-year-old pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization, was badly injured in a collision that reportedly killed three other men early Monday morning.
The crash took place in San Pedro de Macoris, Jimenez’s hometown, and has shaken both the community and the baseball world.

Local outlet conexion23com reported that the accident unfolded outside the offices of the telecommunications company Altice.
A red SUV is said to have slammed into two scooters, leaving a chaotic scene that first responders described as catastrophic.
Three victims—identified as Alfredo Garcia, Victor de Jesus, and Israel Carpio—were pronounced dead at the site.
Garcia was believed to be 28, while the ages of the other two men have not yet been released.
Jimenez Rushed to Hospital With Severe Injuries
Jimenez survived the impact but suffered multiple serious injuries, including fractures to his femur and spine as well as deep lacerations.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in intensive care, surrounded by medical teams working to stabilize him.
As of now, doctors have not provided a long-term prognosis, but the situation is considered extremely serious.

The San Francisco Giants issued a short, somber statement acknowledging the crash and asking for privacy as they gather details.
“We are aware of the tragic car accident involving one of our players, Antonio Jimenez,” the organization shared.
“Out of respect for everyone affected and due to the ongoing investigation, we will refrain from further comment at this time.”
Officials in the Dominican National Police have also been contacted for further clarification on the investigation.
A Career Built Across Two Nations
Jimenez’s path through baseball has taken him from his hometown in the Dominican Republic to the minor league fields of the United States.
Currently with the Sacramento River Cats, the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, he joined the team late last year and has participated in spring training with the MLB squad.
He has also pitched in the Dominican Winter League with Toros del Este, further building his résumé as a promising arm.
From Free Agent to Standout Pitcher
First signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018, Jimenez worked his way through the minors before catching the attention of San Francisco, who signed him in 2024.
Over his career, he’s posted a solid 3.43 ERA across 422 innings, racking up an impressive 471 strikeouts.
This season he has appeared in three starts for the River Cats, logging a 3.55 ERA through 45.2 innings—allowing 35 hits and striking out 56 batters.
