Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd opens up about harsh alcohol limits and her struggles fitting in with big-name stars on set in Scotland

While Celebrity Traitors might look like a fun-filled game of deception and cocktails, Ruth Codd has revealed that life behind the scenes is far more disciplined than viewers might think.

The 29-year-old actress, best known for her role in The Midnight Club, opened up about the show’s surprisingly strict alcohol policy — and how it added an extra layer of pressure during filming.

A Sobering Set Policy

Ruth explained that despite the cast often appearing at the bar surrounded by bottles and bubbly drinks, there was very little actual drinking allowed.

“They’re very strict on alcohol,” she told The Sunday Times.

“It’s not boozy at all. You’re allowed two drinks at night.”

For a show filled with intense strategy, secret alliances, and emotional twists, limiting alcohol makes sense — but it also meant contestants had to stay sharp even when tensions were high.

Feeling Out of Place

Beyond the alcohol restrictions, Ruth admitted she felt at a disadvantage compared to her co-stars.

“There was probably an unspoken hierarchy in there,” she shared.

“That placed certain people like myself at a disadvantage because I haven’t been in the industry very long.”

Competing alongside big names like Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, and Charlotte Church wasn’t just intimidating — it shaped the way the game unfolded.

The Traitors’ Deadly Decision

Ruth’s suspicions toward Jonathan Ross ultimately cost her the game.

During Thursday’s episode, the Traitors — Jonathan, Alan, and singer Cat Burns — decided she had to go.

Jonathan, feeling the pressure, said, “Ruth is not going to let it go, and I feel like the cloak is getting tighter round my neck.”

Alan backed the move, adding, “Yeah, let’s get rid now before she poisons everyone.”

When Ruth discovered the letter announcing her “murder,” she took it with grace and humor, joking, “I knew this was coming… Jonathan and Kate Garraway are traitors!”

Despite the betrayal, she kept her composure, saying, “I’m mentally extremely strong, and I will miss the Faithfuls.”

Shock at the Breakfast Table

The next morning, the castle was filled with confusion as the remaining stars gathered for breakfast.

Charlotte Church and Stephen Fry were the last to arrive, only to realize Ruth was gone.

“We’re missing Ruth — I don’t know what that means,” one contestant said anxiously.

Jonathan, now under suspicion, confessed to the camera, “Yesterday I had a lot of heat on me, so I have to be aware that people are going to be looking at me. I am worried.”

Meanwhile, Joe Marler predicted that Ruth’s death might actually backfire.

“I think they’re going to kill Ruth to make it look like Jonathan,” he said, while Joe Wilkinson disagreed, insisting, “I don’t think it’s Jonathan.”

Fans React to Ruth’s Exit

Ruth’s elimination — making her the fifth celebrity to be “murdered” — sparked outrage among fans of the hit BBC show.

Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment, calling it one of the biggest mistakes the Traitors had made so far.

“Absolutely gutted. Loved Ruth; Ruth knew too much!” one fan wrote.

Another added, “Surely killing Ruth off is the dumbest thing the Traitors could have done. I’m genuinely so gutted about Ruth!”

Others pointed out how suspicious it now made Jonathan look: “Massive mistake by The Traitors in murdering Ruth — Jonathan looks guilty as sin now. Ouch.”

A Game of Deception and Regret

The drama didn’t stop there.

The previous night, the group had voted to banish Clare Balding, believing she might be one of the Traitors.

Before leaving, Clare revealed she was innocent, saying, “I came in with one strategy, and I’ve had the best time. I am and have been from the start a Faithful.”

Stephen Fry was visibly dismayed, exclaiming, “Oh my god, how are we so useless? We’ve lost a great Faithful.”

Charlotte agreed, adding, “She was such a good Faithful.”

Watching from the sidelines, Jonathan couldn’t help but smirk at how well the Traitors’ plan had worked.

“I’ve got to be the luckiest Traitor,” he confessed.

“The Faithfuls did our dirty work for us. Everyone’s going to be scratching away at each other now.”

What Comes Next?

With Ruth gone and the Faithfuls in turmoil, the remaining contestants are left wondering who they can trust.

The balance of power is shifting fast — and every move could mean the difference between survival and betrayal.

As the castle grows quieter and suspicions run deeper, one question lingers: who will be the next to fall?
