Former prosecutor Siphokazi Magangana faces corruption and job scam charges after offering fake legal posts in Johannesburg

What started as a trusted legal career has now landed a former prosecutor behind bars.

Siphokazi Magangana, once working in the heart of the justice system, is now facing serious criminal charges alongside her co-accused, Yandisa Jam Jam.

Their next day in court is set for Friday, 20 June, when their bail application will be heard.

Job Promises, No Interviews—Just Cash

The heart of the case dates back to August 2022, when Magangana was still employed at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

She allegedly approached three people with an enticing offer: permanent jobs as prosecutors—no interviews or formal process required. All they had to do was pay R10,000 each.

But those jobs never came. The victims were left empty-handed after transferring the money, which was allegedly sent straight into Jam Jam’s bank account.

Nearly a year later, they decided to speak up and report what had happened.

NPA Digs Deeper into the Allegations

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) launched an internal investigation once the complaints came to light.

It didn’t take long for the inquiry to lead to formal charges of corruption and money laundering against both Magangana and Jam Jam.

Disciplinary action was also recommended against the former court official.

This case has since sparked wider concern over corruption within the justice system, especially given that the accused once held a position meant to uphold the law.

Public Warned About Job Scam Tactics

In light of the situation, NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane issued a strong warning to the public, reminding job seekers to stay vigilant.

“We want to warn the public not to fall prey to false promises,” she said.
“The NPA does not charge any fee for employment.

Our hiring process is formal, transparent, and always advertised publicly.”

The reminder serves as a wake-up call for anyone tempted by shortcut offers in a competitive job market.

Back in Court Soon as Bail Hangs in the Balance

On Tuesday, the pair made a brief appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.

Due to the serious nature of the allegations and the ongoing investigation, the magistrate ordered that both remain in custody until their next appearance on Friday, when bail will be decided.

Whether they’ll be released or remain behind bars is yet to be seen—but for now, the court isn’t taking any chances.
