Africa is home to some of the most innovative healthcare solutions, but scaling these ideas into impactful businesses takes resources, guidance, and the right support network.

That’s where the Home Grown Solutions (HGS) Accelerator for Pandemic Resilience comes in.

This initiative is designed to supercharge African healthcare companies, helping them grow and strengthen the continent’s ability to tackle health crises.

Aligned with the African Union’s Energize Africa Initiative and Agenda 2063, the accelerator provides hands-on, customized support to early-stage, growing, and established healthcare businesses.

It was founded by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)—Japan’s official development assistance body.

A Growing Impact Across Africa

The journey started in 2021 with a pilot program featuring five East African healthcare companies.

Encouraged by its success, the program expanded across the continent in 2022, supporting 14 businesses.

The momentum continued with 9 companies funded in 2023 and another 10 in 2024.

Among the standout participants were DrugStoc, AHN, Revital, Rology, and Zuri Health, with backing from key partners such as GIZ, Rwandan Development Board, AAIC, World Food Programme, WHO, UNIDO, and VKAV.

Now, the accelerator is gearing up for its next phase, launching its Pan-African call for 2025 applications.

Being part of the fifth HGS Accelerator cohort means receiving personalized support to help your business grow.

Over a four-month period in 2025, the accelerator will work closely with you to develop a customized growth plan focusing on three key areas:

Strategic Business Development – Tailored guidance to expand your market reach.
Operational Strengthening – Support in refining your business processes and supply chains.
Partnership and Investment Opportunities – Access to a vast network of advisors, mentors, and potential investors.

Beyond the program, alumni will continue to benefit from this growing ecosystem of like-minded innovators, making connections that could open doors for years to come.

Are You Eligible?

To qualify for the 2025 HGS Accelerator cohort, your company must meet three key criteria:

Business Stage
- Be a growth-stage or mature company (not just an idea or startup)
- Be a registered for-profit entity
- Have clear market traction and an established customer base
- Show ambition and potential for scaling
Healthcare Contribution
- Manufacture medical devices or consumables within Africa
- Provide essential healthcare services, including diagnostics and treatment
- Offer technology-driven solutions to improve healthcare access or delivery
Homegrown African Identity
- Operate primarily or exclusively in Africa, preferably across multiple countries
- Employ a majority of local staff
- Have a leadership team with strong African representation

How to Apply

The application process is simple. Fill out the application form by February 28, 2025.

After the deadline, shortlisted companies will need to provide investor and customer references, along with high-level financial details, in March and April 2025.

The final selection will be made by the end of April 2025, and the acceleration program will run from May to August 2025.
