Elton John clashes with producers as tensions rise in Los Angeles recording studio during latest album sessions

Music legend Elton John is back with his first album in four years, but behind the scenes, things got a little heated.

The 77-year-old singer recently announced “Who Believes In Angels?”, a collaboration with country star Brandi Carlile.

While fans were thrilled about the news, footage from the recording sessions paints a picture of a high-stakes, emotionally charged creative process.

A Tense Studio Session Caught on Camera

Elton has never been one to hide his emotions, and his latest project was no exception.

In recently released footage from Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studios, the pop icon was seen slamming his headphones down, tearing up sheet music, and declaring, “I’m going home.”

Even his collaborator, Brandi Carlile, admitted she struggled to connect with him during the recording process.

“Elton is prone to bouts of insecurity, especially when the stakes are high,” she explained.

Producer Andrew Watt also found himself in the crossfire, as Elton snapped at him when asked if he was ready to record. “Why do you think I’m sitting here?” the singer shot back.

The Return of Elton’s Legendary Temper

Longtime fans aren’t exactly surprised by this latest outburst.

Elton’s temper has been well-documented over the years, most famously in the 1997 documentary Tantrums and Tiaras, which captured his explosive reactions to everything from missing wardrobe items to frustrating music video shoots.

One particularly infamous moment from the documentary shows Elton flying into a rage on set after realizing his clothes were left in a car.

“I got up at fing seven o’clock to be here and someone left my clothes in the car! What the fk is going on?” he yelled.

Even when assured the clothes would be back in five minutes, he wasn’t having it: “It’s not going to be back in five f**ing minutes! It’s gone right back into the center of Manhattan.”

Heated Moments Beyond the Studio

Elton’s frustration hasn’t been limited to music-related incidents.

He’s also had his fair share of public outbursts, from clashes with photographers to feuds with fellow musicians.

In 2012, he famously branded Madonna a “ct” and a “f*ing nightmare,” criticizing her for what he called a disastrous tour and for being “horrible to [Lady] Gaga.”

Even vacations haven’t been immune to his temper.

During a holiday in the South of France, Elton was filmed storming off after a disagreement, vowing, “I’m never coming here again.”

A New Chapter for Elton?

Despite his history of outbursts, Elton insists that his husband, David Furnish, has helped him gain better control over his emotions.

“I still have that streak in me, but the tantrums don’t happen so much anymore,” he said in 2004. “They happen when I’m tired, and I just get in a snit.

But David knows exactly how to deal with them.”

With Who Believes In Angels? set for release on April 4, Elton describes the album as one of the most challenging but rewarding projects of his career.

“This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life,” he said.

“I wanted to push myself—to play better, sing better, and challenge myself at this stage in my career.”

The Creative Process Behind the Album

The album, which was recorded in just 20 days, features a mix of Elton-led and Brandi-led songs, with longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin also contributing lyrics.

According to promotional material, the record blends rock, pop, country, and even elements of psychedelic synth sounds, creating a fresh but unmistakably “Elton” sound.

While the recording process may have had its fiery moments, the result is an album that both Elton and his collaborators believe is something special. “It’s an album as unexpected as it is triumphant,” the promo teases.

“Elton sounds utterly revitalized. Brandi is at the top of her game.

Their voices meld together like a hand in a glove.”

Temper tantrums aside, fans can’t wait to hear what this legendary artist has created in this next chapter of his career.
