Chad le Clos Supports the Chad le Clos Foundation at the Midmar Dam by Cheering on Swimmers Raising Funds for Water Safety in South Africa

Chad le Clos, a name synonymous with Olympic success and world-class swimming, is making a shift this February.

Rather than competing in the pool, he’s focusing on a cause that’s close to his heart at the Midmar Dam.

Supporting the Chad le Clos Foundation

While he’s no stranger to the Midmar Mile, having participated in the world’s largest open water swim before, this year, the four-time Olympic gold medallist will not be diving into the dam’s waters.

Instead, he’ll be there to cheer on and support those swimming to raise funds for the Chad le Clos Foundation, which is one of the official charities of the event.

A Purposeful Event

The Midmar Mile is known for raising millions of rands for various causes, and this year is no different.

The event plays a key role in supporting initiatives like Le Clos’ foundation, which was established in 2018 to create safer swimming environments across South Africa.

The foundation is dedicated to teaching essential swimming survival skills and promoting water safety, all in an effort to reduce the country’s high drowning rates.

Raising Awareness and Funds

As part of the event, 20 swimmers will participate in the 8-Mile Charity Challenge from February 6-7, completing eight crossings of the dam to raise funds for the foundation.

Additionally, 20 young swimmers who benefit from the foundation’s programs will compete in the iconic one-mile race during the main event, which takes place from February 8-9.

Chad’s Excitement for the Event

Chad le Clos expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, acknowledging the hard work that’s gone into preparations.

“I’m super, super excited about the Midmar Mile coming up,” he shared.

“We’ve been prepping for a long time with the Chad le Clos Foundation so a big shout-out to my team.”

Even though he won’t be competing this year, Le Clos is looking forward to a family-filled weekend of supporting the cause.

He’s taking a break from swimming for the next few months, but his focus will shift toward the World Aquatics Championships later in the year.

Last-Minute Entries for Midmar Mile

For those still hoping to take part in the Midmar Mile, there’s still a chance.

Though online entries have closed, swimmers can still register on the day of the event.

However, it’s advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
