After spending almost a week in jail, celebrity sangoma Gogo Maweni was granted bail of R5,000 following her arrest over an assault charge.

The case dates back to 2019 and has recently resurfaced after a thorough investigation by the Gauteng Province Cold Case Investigation Unit.

She was apprehended in the Mondeor area, which led to her arrest on serious charges.

Gogo Maweni Shares Gratitude After Bail Hearing

Gogo Maweni’s first court appearance saw her being denied bail, with her defense arguing for her release on health grounds, as she had limited access to her medication while in custody.

However, news about her pregnancy with twins added a layer of concern.

At her second court appearance, the court granted her bail, and her case was postponed until February 11, 2025.

After being released, Gogo Maweni took to Instagram to share her gratitude.

In a heartfelt post, she praised her ancestors and God, thanking them for the lesson learned.

The post, accompanied by cleansing rituals, quickly went viral, sparking an outpouring of support from fans and even fellow celebrities.

Support From Fellow Healers

One notable display of solidarity came from fellow traditional healer Dr. A Dlamini, who attended the court proceedings.

Dr. Dlamini made it clear that while the allegations against Maweni were serious, he was showing support due to her charitable efforts and positive contributions to the community.

“I’m not condoning the allegations against her,” Dr. Dlamini told the media.

“However, having worked with her and seen the good she’s done, I felt it was important to show my support.”

The Assault Case and Ongoing Investigation

Gogo Maweni’s arrest follows explosive claims made by traditional healer Gogo Skhotheni, who suggested that Maweni was involved in two murders.

These accusations surfaced in a video shared on social media, raising questions around the celebrity sangoma’s involvement in more serious criminal matters.

However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed her arrest was tied to an alleged assault that occurred in December 2019, not the murder allegations.

According to the NPA, the assault took place in Dlamini, Soweto, where Maweni allegedly struck the complainant in the mouth with a bottle.

The case had previously been closed due to difficulties in locating the complainant, but further investigations led to Maweni’s recent arrest.

What’s Next for Gogo Maweni?

While the case continues to develop, Gogo Maweni’s social media presence and popularity keep her in the spotlight.

As her court date approaches, people are left wondering how this complex case will unfold, especially with additional accusations hanging over her head.
