A man has been charged following a devastating house explosion in Newcastle that claimed the lives of two people, including a seven-year-old boy.

The explosion, which occurred on October 16, left the community in shock and mourning.

Manslaughter and Cannabis Charges

Reece Galbraith, 33, from Gateshead, is facing serious charges, including two counts of manslaughter, production of cannabis, and involvement in the supply of cannabis.

He was arrested yesterday and is set to appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court today.

The charges come after a three-week investigation into the tragic explosion that killed seven-year-old Archie York and 35-year-old Jason ‘Jay’ Laws.

Ongoing Investigation

In connection with the explosion, three other men had previously been arrested, including two men in their 30s and one in his 50s.

They remain on police bail as further inquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Katie Smith of Northumbria Police emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and urged the public to avoid speculation, which could undermine the legal process.

Heartfelt Tributes to Young Archie

Archie’s parents, Katherine and Robbie York, have paid tribute to their son, describing him as a “cheeky” boy with a “heart of gold.”

In a statement shared by the police, they expressed their devastation, saying, “Archie was not only our son but our best friend.

He lit up every room he went in, whether that was with his cheeky smile he was known for or some of his cheeky words.”

Despite their heartbreak, the York family found solace in the fact that Archie’s memory will live on through his baby brother, Finley, who looks just like him.

They ended their tribute by acknowledging the support they’ve received from those who have paid their respects.
