Seeks Improvement in Teaching The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has charged all Principals in the District to improve service delivery through attitudinal changes in the discharge of their statutory duties.

Mrs. Adekanye gave the charge on Monday in her address at a forum organised for school Principals and Vice-Principals in the District at Immaculate Hall, Maryland, Lagos, noting that the meeting was convened to reawaken the administrators’ consciousness to their roles and responsibilities.

She submitted that although the District won several laurels last year including the annual Spelling Bee competition, there is a need to surpass the brilliant performance, adding that all teachers in the District must ensure improvement in their students’ performance going forward.

Adekanye challenged the participants to remain committed to monitoring teachers under their supervision in the area of academics as well as counselling students in choosing a career path.

In her words: “I want to urge our Principals and Vice Principals to encourage teachers in the area of counselling students in choosing a career path. Do something extraordinary that will motivate students to want to come to school regularly, be mindful of the language they use in teaching and ensure that the students understand what they are being taught”.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) also revealed that henceforth, a Credit Pass in all subjects is now compulsory before any student can be promoted to the next class, just as she implored the Principals to create a cordial relationship with their host communities where issues of interest to the school can be extensively discussed and resolved.

She also informed the participants to use every means to discourage students from bullying their fellow students, advising all students being bullied to speak out in order to put the perpetrators in check.
