INEC Confirms Preparedness for Off-Cycle Elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its readiness for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.
The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, made this announcement while appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday.
Deployment of Personnel and Materials
Oyekanmi provided details about the preparations, emphasizing that all necessary materials were already in place in the three states.
INEC has deployed over 46,000 staff for the upcoming elections, including both ad hoc and regular staff. This extensive workforce has undergone training to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process.
Off-Cycle Elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States
The announcement comes as the country approaches off-cycle governorship elections scheduled to take place in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states on the designated Saturday.
The commission’s assurance of readiness is a significant step in ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process.
Electronic Result Transmission
Oyekanmi also addressed concerns related to electronic result transmission. INEC has faced scrutiny for not electronically transmitting results during the general elections held between February and March 2023, which led to skepticism regarding its commitment to transparency.
The Chief Press Secretary clarified that the commission was fully prepared to electronically transmit election results during the upcoming off-cycle elections.
This reassurance aims to restore confidence in the electoral process and ensure that results are transmitted accurately and swiftly.
Commitment to Fair and Credible Elections
In conclusion, Oyekanmi reiterated INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, credible, and fair election in the off-cycle governorship elections of Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.
The commission’s efforts in deploying staff, materials, and implementing electronic result transmission systems reflect its dedication to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
Signed by INEC’s Chief Press Secretary
The statement serves to reaffirm INEC’s commitment to delivering transparent and trustworthy elections in the specified states and addressing any concerns that may have arisen from previous electoral processes.
