While sprinkling his father’s ashes from an amphibious aircraft that crashed during a memorial trip, a devastated son and the pilot both perished.

Lee Cemensky, 58, was a passenger on a Douglas A. Johnson, 61,-operated amphibious aircraft.

As the jet failed to arrive at its destination, police were sent to a remote location outside of Emily, some 150 miles north of Minneapolis.

Emergency personnel declared both individuals dead at the site, according to The Hitc.

Lee had dispersed his father’s ashes, according to Lt. Craig Katzenberger of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, who was present at the site on Sunday night.

His father, Leo John, passed away at his Fifty Lakes home on August 7, according to an online obituary.

Aside from his wife Vikki, Leo is survived by a daughter and son, four granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are also looking into the disaster.

The sheriff’s office inquiry is still ongoing, according to Katzenberger.

In order to go back to Minnesota, Lee sold his company, Brakes Plus, in February in Las Vegas.

He sold the company to Brakes Plus manager Joseph Hunter on February 28, who described him as a “nice person… kind to all his clients.”

The Swan had been utilised for tourist viewing in Emily, Minnesota, prior to the accident.
