In the Italian Dolomites, a British base jumper was killed in an accident.
Dylan Morris Roberts, 33, was a seasoned sky diver with hundreds of jumps under his belt and a former teacher with British parachute schools.
He’d mixed his passion for parachuting with the dangerous sport of base jumping, which has claimed the lives of over 400 people in the last two decades.
The devastating news came just one day after Australian Matthew Glen Munting, 35, died nearby.
Munting died suddenly on Thursday morning after colliding with a gully off Mount Cimone.
According to friends, the professional base jumper’s parachute did not open. It’s also possible that he miscalculated his course.
Dylan died instantaneously after leaping from an 800-meter cliff known as ‘Happy Birthday’ on the 1500-meter Monte Brento in northern Italy’s Trentino area.
Onlookers reported he dropped 200 meters and looked to hit the edge of the mountain shortly after takeoff, and mountain rescue teams found his body.
When the event occurred last Friday morning, he was jumping with a group of five other people, but specifics have only now been confirmed.
