22-year-old domestic violence victim shows horrifying bruises from ex-boyfriend

A lady has boldly shared how her violent ex-boyfriend beat her so severely that he shattered her jaw while raping and beating her.

Emmanuel Richards, 42, launched a vicious campaign of harassment on Morgan Matthews, 22, in his presence.

In one assault, Richards chased her down with a machete and choked the life out of her. He raped her when she woke up.

She and Richards, also known as “the Tank,” started dating for two weeks before he pursued her with a brick after she refused to hold narcotics for him.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Richards received a 15-year sentence for three charges of rape, two acts of assault, and using coercive and controlling behaviour.

Morgan has now boldly given up her anonymity in order to speak out and inspire other victims to call the police and report their assailants.

Morgan, a mother of one, met Richards in September 2018 when she was 18 years old despite the fact that he was 20 years her older.

He was referred to as “the Tank,” but at first he looked harmless, the woman added.

I ran into him at the park while walking my dog, and he asked for my phone number.

“Only two weeks later, he started being hostile.”

Richards asked her to hold drugs for him after which he “came at her” with a brick.

Morgan added: “I hurriedly shut the door, but he threatened to kick the door down, so I reluctanly let him in.” Morgan said that he “flipped” and then pursued her out of his vehicle with a brick.

Then he threatened to scald me with hot water.

Richards’ abuse became worse; one day in November 2018, when Morgan informed him she didn’t want sex since she was on her period, he disregarded her and raped her.

Richards started accusing Morgan of infidelity and forbade her from taking a bath or shower unless he was there because he thought she was “washing off another guy.”

Life, according to Morgan, was a nightmare. I was not permitted to use a phone or wear makeup by Emmanuel.

I felt stuck because of how he controlled me.

Morgan ultimately had the resolve to end their relationship in February 2019.

However, when she got home after a night out with friends a few days later, she saw a notice on her door labelling her a “slag” and informing her that she had Chlamydia.

After threatening Morgan’s family, he “wormed his way back in” a few days later, and she was afraid to inform him.

In March, Richards once arrived home intoxicated and tossed Morgan down the stairs.

“He lifted me up and dragged me into the bedroom, where he raped me,” she claims.

All I could do was sob because I was afraid he would murder me.

He then threatened to burn down Morgan’s home when she sought to leave him.

A few days later, Richards struck Morgan once again. He hit her in the face after chasing her around the apartment with a machete and strangled her until she passed out.

When I turned around, he apologised but then raped me, recounts Morgan.

“I had no way out.”

When she awoke, her mother Marie, 47, was standing over her and pleading with her not to return to him. She drove Morgan to Tameside General Hospital’s A&E department.

Two weeks later, Richards answered the phone when Morgan’s mother called to see how she was doing.

When Marie asked to speak to her daughter, Richards struck her in the face rather than handing the phone to her.

Morgan recalled, “I felt something snap and the agony was excruciating; blood flowed down my face.”

The A&E personnel at Wythenshawe Hospital asked Morgan if she wanted to talk on her own, but she declined because she was too afraid. Emmanuel escorted Morgan there.

She found out she was three weeks pregnant when she went in for a surgery the next week to realign her jaw.

Emmanuel was detained while in the hospital getting three pins and metal plates put in her jaw after her mother phoned the police.

Sadly, a few weeks later, she miscarried the child.

After being found guilty on three charges of rape, two counts of assault, and one act of coercive and controlling behaviour, Emmanuel Richards was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court in January 2022.

Morgan said: “I’m pleased he’s behind bars but today I’m still in continuous agony. I have lasting scars, migraines, and discomfort in my jaw.”

I have PTSD and often get panic episodes.

“I’m so happy Mom called the cops,” I said. Without her, I would not have been able to escape him.

“If you’re in a violent relationship, please leave.

“It won’t improve,”
