Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has denied rumors that he was chosen as Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Rivers State Governor told Nigerians on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, during a session with various stakeholders at the Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt, that the South has not yet agreed on the zoning of the PDP presidential ticket.
Nyesom Wike, emphasizing that the South cannot be taken for a walk, claimed that the rest of the world will notice when the region eventually takes a stand on the subject of zoning.
According to his words, Nyesom Wike said, ” Please discountenance all those things you are hearing. The South will make a statement very soon. ”
” The day the South comes out with a statement, the Nigerians will know we’ re not kidding. What is needed is for the party to do the right thing. ”
He further explained that ” We are assets as opposed to liabilities. If we say we are going to support the party we will do it with everything we have. We are not in America where they do television campaigns. No, it’ s not done here. ”
” When we come out we will choke them. So everybody should relax let the South do their homework and they will make a statement that will be beneficial to Nigerians and the PDP, ” Wike said.
Remember, last year, for example, the Southern Governors Forum (SGF) had demanded a change of power that would enable the southern region to produce the successor of Muhammadu Buhari.
Since then, the demand has sparked a myriad of reactions across the country, with the insistence of the Northern Political Bloc that they will not be blackmailed to relinquish power in the next parliamentary elections.
