2023 Election: Governor Wike canvasses for unity among PDP members

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has stressed the need for synergy among the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s key stakeholders across geo-political zones in the country.

He affirms that it will produce a candidate that Nigerians can accept to pave the way for a successful outing at the 2023 general election.

The governor, who spoke to journalists after paying a courtesy call to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, noted that the most important task before him, among others concerning stakeholders, is the unity of the party to ensure electoral victory for the party.

Wike stated that governors in the Southern part of the country are advocating that the presidency be zoned to the region.

They say it is not enough for them (southern governors) to jettison the views of other stakeholders from the north but that the decision should help the party move forward.

He added that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) can never pose any threat to the ambition of the PDP to retake the mantle of leadership at the national level come 2023.

Wike asserted: “First of all, you can see the mood of Nigerians.

They want a change.

So, if Nigerians have said APC has failed them, why would they pose any challenge? I’ve come here for all of us to work together to make sure that the party is united in producing someone that Nigerians would accept and make sure that we win the election come 2023.

He disclosed that he was in Oyo State to condole with Governor Seyi Makinde on the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, thank him for his efforts at the successful conduct of the National Convention of the PDP, and to canvass for a united front as a strategy for winning the 2023 elections.

Speaking earlier during the courtesy call held at the Governor’s Office Courtesy Room, Makinde said the importance of unity in achieving success at the pool could not be overstressed.

He thanked the visitor and charged Wike not to relent to improve society at the state and national levels.

Former governor, Celestine Omehia, accompanied the Rivers State Governor; former deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche; former Minister for Transport, Chief Abiye Sekibo, former Special Adviser to the President and former MD of the Niger Delta Development Company, NDDC, Chief Timi Alaibe and River State PDP chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor.
