2022 World Civil Defence Day: NSCDC  Tasks Stakeholders On  Proactive Civil Defence Culture To Promote Preventive Measures 

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has joined its members under the International Civil Defence Organization, ICDO, to commemorate the 2022World Civil Defence Day.

World Civil Defence Day, is celebrated on first March every year to provide platforms to raise awareness of the need to prepare for and prevent possible disasters.

Correspondent Blessing Uchendu  reports that  officers and men of NSCDC in Anambra State, converged on the command’s headquarters in Awka to discuss the theme of the global event which is “Civil Defence and Management of Displaced Populations in the Face of Disasters and Crisis: Role of Volunteers and the Fight Against Pandemics”.

Delivering a message from the General Secretary of ICDO, Mr. Yap Mariatou, the Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Everestus Obiyo, called on stakeholders to create more proactive civil defence culture based on prevention rather than responses, by mobilizing volunteers for early disaster risk management at all levels of the society.

The Secretary General further stated that prevention policies must take into account the regulation of all types of facilities such as the constant control and supervision of workplaces involving oil, gas, chemicals and other hazards.

On his part, the Head, Department Administration, NSCDC, Anambra State, Dr Solomon Ekeopara, called on citizens to learn legal methods of protecting oneself rather than endangering two or more lives at once.

One of the speakers at the event and Head, Department of Crisis Management, Dr Judith Udemezue, added that the impact of COVID-19 would always remind aid givers and concerned stakeholders the suffering of all population in the face of crisis of all kind.
