A year after the start of the war, details of Boris Johnson’s angry reaction upon being woken to news of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine have emerged.

Aides informed the then-PM of the “special military operation” in the middle of the night, to which he responded with an expletive-laden remark.
Johnson has since been a strong advocate for NATO to increase support for Ukraine, having struck up a close relationship with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The conflict is ongoing, with Zelensky pleading for more military assistance to break the stalemate, and Johnson describing Putin’s actions as “disgusting” and “repellent”.
