Sometimes, the love of rugby doesn’t just stay with one generation—it carries on with the next.
That’s exactly what’s happening in the Kolisi and Burger families.
Siya Kolisi and Schalk Burger are two names every South African rugby fan knows well, and now their sons are starting to make their own mark on the field.
The Next Generation Takes the Field
In a recent Under-11 rugby match between SA College High School (SACS) and Bishops Diocesan College, a special moment was captured.
Nicol Burger and Nicholas Kolisi—sons of the Springbok legends—were photographed together after the game, and the image has been making the rounds online for all the right reasons.
Nicol, just like his dad Schalk, plays as a flank for SACS.
Nicholas, on the other hand, follows in his father Siya’s footsteps and takes up positions at lock or loose forward for Bishops.
More Than Just Mud and Tackles
After the match, Schalk Burger Snr—Nicol’s grandfather—spoke to City Press about the game and the boys’ spirit. “The lads played their hearts out,” he said proudly.
“You can see from the mud on them they gave it their all.
But what really stands out is the camaraderie off the field.”
He went on to explain how this echoes his own son Schalk’s attitude during his playing days.
“Schalk never backed down during a match, but once the final whistle blew, it was all about friendship and connection.
That’s a tradition that’s clearly still going strong.”
A Proud Moment for Both Families
The photo of these young players, both covered in mud and grinning side by side, is more than just cute—it’s a symbol of the legacy these two legendary rugby families are building. Whether they end up going pro or not, one thing’s for sure: the values of passion, sportsmanship, and friendship are alive and well in the next generation.
