Young England fan Tess, 8, celebrates with England players during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 semi-final match at Bramall Lane

A young child who went viral for her excitement when the Lionesses advanced to the Euro 2022 final says she wants to follow in their footsteps and play football.

Tess, an eight-year-old schoolgirl, was seen having a wild time after England’s women’s team won the competition.

The Wakefield, West Yorks girl was captured on camera by the BBC and was shown to the country when she was in utter raptures.

Tess was identified by the cameraman when she sang the national song by Neil Diamond while donning the complete England uniform for the match at Sheffield’s Bramall Lane.

She told the BBC this morning that she was thinking about wanting to become a football player when she was older.

“I was thinking about how I was going to celebrate as I saw how they were partying.”

“Usually they look at the large screen and can see that I’m on television, but they didn’t know that I was being videotaped!”

Her celebration would go down in history, according to Ian Wright, who also participated on the programme.

He continued, “I simply want to ask whether watching the females play makes you believe I could achieve it someday.” Does it give you that feeling?

Tess responded, “Yeah, absolutely.”

The Lionesses prevailed 4-0 to secure a spot in the Wembley final on Sunday against either Germany or France as they seek to capture the first-ever European Championship trophy.

Alessia Russo of Manchester United scored England’s third goal by slipping a backheeled shot between the legs of two Sweden defenders and into the goal.

After 34 minutes of the semi-final, Mead made up for a sluggish start when he spun smartly in the box and scored.

Soon after the restart, they doubled their advantage thanks to Lucy Bronze’s header, and Russo’s daring attempt was followed by Fran Kirby’s chip over Sweden goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl.
