A tense and alarming scene unfolded Wednesday afternoon in rural York County, Pennsylvania, as five police officers were wounded in a shooting while serving a warrant.
Three of the officers are reportedly in critical condition, including a York County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Authorities say the alleged shooter appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers Targeted During Warrant Service
Sources told NBC10 that the officers were targeted while executing a warrant when the suspect opened fire.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after an initial 911 call came in at 2:10 p.m., followed by a flurry of additional calls including urgent messages reporting “officer down” and issuing a “signal 13,” which signals an officer in trouble.
Hospitals and Security Measures
Two people injured in the incident are being treated at York Hospital in serious condition.
The facility has increased security, and WellSpan Hospital also went on lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities have emphasized that the situation is not connected to local schools or students.

The Pennsylvania House Republicans issued a statement expressing their concern and gratitude.
“We are troubled and deeply saddened by the shooting of multiple officers in York County, PA today,” the group said.
“We are thankful for the swift actions of all first responders and for the daily sacrifices our law enforcement officers make for our safety every day.”
