Yara Shahidi receives Harvard diploma

The star of the hit TV show Black-ish shared the happy news on Instagram, alongside photographs of her graduation gown. She wrote a 136-page thesis titled “I Am a Man: The Emancipation of Humanity from Western Hegemony Through the Lens of Sylvia Wynter” before graduating.

“Yara (noun): a Harvard graduate,” the 22-year-old wrote when sharing a pair of graduation photos taken by photographer Paul Mardy.

According to Complex, her focus was on “Black political thought under a neocolonial landscape,”.

She recently gave an interview to Vogue Magazine in which she discussed her time at the elite institution. Se said:

“It’s surreal to have finally hit this major milestone,”

“I’ve known I wanted to go to college since I was four. By 17, I knew exactly what I wanted to study, so to see that come to fruition is a goal fulfilled.”
