Women in Music is a global non-profit organisation made up of record label executives, artist managers, publicists, songwriters and more looking to advance the equality of women in music. Women in Music South Africa, Paradise Sound System and Trace Southern Africa have announced the 11 finalists for the “Searching for Paradise” competition which is looking to develop local talent.
As per their website, Woman in Music was founded in 1985 and aims to make the music industry a more diverse and inclusive community. Women in Music South Africa was founded in 2020.
At the beginning of the year, the Searching for Paradise competition invited budding musicians to submit their music for a chance to release their single with Paradise Sound System, a local record label that released Zakes Bantwini’s Osama.
Women in South Africa chairperson, Tumi Mogapi told Music in Africa: “We are always looking for ways to provide opportunities for our members and what better way than to spotlight their work and assist them to take it to market with the help of our amazing partnerships and allyship.”
“We are on a mission to ensure female musicians have an easier road to success,” added Trace Southern African managing director, Valentine Gaudin-Muteba.
WHAT DOES EACH FINALIST WIN?
As per Music in Africa, here is what each Searching for Paradise finalist will win.
- The opportunity to be part of the Searching for Paradise compilation set to be released on Friday 29 April.
- Coaching sessions from Woman in Music South Africa, Trace and Paradise Sound System about how to develop their careers.
- The highest number of streams will decide which finalist will win a music video.
