Woman Carries Out Knife Attack at Hamburg Central Station Leaving Dozens Injured and Authorities Investigating Motive

What should have been a typical evening at Hamburg’s bustling central railway station turned into a nightmare when a woman suddenly launched a brutal knife attack.

The shocking incident left at least 17 people injured, with six fighting for their lives, shaking the city’s sense of safety.

The Attack and Arrest of the Suspect

Police quickly intervened and arrested the 39-year-old woman believed to have carried out the stabbing spree alone.

Authorities say she did not resist arrest when approached.

Remarkably, police have found no evidence so far of any political motive behind the attack, focusing instead on the possibility that she was experiencing a psychological crisis.

Hamburg Police spokesman Florian Abbenseth shared with the media, “We are currently investigating whether the suspect may have been in a psychological emergency.”

At the moment, they are not looking for any other suspects.

Victims and Scene Description

The attack took place on the platform between tracks 13 and 14, a busy area where local and long-distance trains regularly stop.

The victims included six people who were severely injured and seven with lighter wounds, according to the Hamburg fire department.

While initial reports suggested six were in critical condition, this number has since been revised to four.

Video clips circulating on social media show a woman in a hoodie and tracksuit being led away by police, underlining the tense atmosphere that unfolded at the station.

Emergency Response and Witness Accounts

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with some injured passengers receiving treatment directly on the trains or platforms.

One witness recalled the chaos, saying, “Luckily, I wasn’t wearing headphones, so I heard the screams and saw people running away in panic.”

Pictures posted online show crowds gathering outside the station as ambulances and forensic teams swarmed the area. The railway operator Deutsche Bahn expressed their shock, sending condolences to those affected.

Impact on Train Services and Security Measures

The attack forced the closure of four tracks and caused delays or rerouting of some long-distance trains during Friday evening.

Hamburg’s transport authorities reiterated that carrying weapons, including knives, is strictly forbidden on the station premises and local transport, highlighting the ongoing challenges in keeping public spaces safe.
