As a Strategy to encourage learning among school children in Anambra state, management of Professor Kenneth Dike Central e-library, Awka, has thrown an end of the year party for them, entertaining and educating them in grand style.
In her address, the Director of the State library, Dr Nkechi Udeze, said the party aims at entertaining, educating, and as well creating awareness on the need for parents and guardians to avail their children and wards the opportunity of reading and being trained in the state library, noting that the library management is committed to nurturing the children into better and responsible citizens.
Dr Udeze, who harped on the necessity of reading in human development, asked parents and guardians to include text books and novels in their children’s Christmas gifts and to always encourage them to read, as according to her, reading makes a man.
Explaining the essence of Christmas Celebration to the children, a teacher at Saint John of God Secondary School, Awka, Reverend Sister Eucharia Nwafor, said it is the remembrance of the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world, advising children to always obey and respect their parents and love one another in order to gain eternal life.
On her part, one of the parents whose child makes use of the library, Mrs Dorothy Nnamdi, commended the library Services for bringing the children together in a pre- Christmas event calling for its sustenance.
Some of the children who spoke to the ABS, including Miss Chizaram Ejiofor and Master Chiziterem Ozomma, expressed happiness for participating in the party which they said, has entertained and as well widened their scope of knowledge on the importance of reading and types of friends to associate with.
Correspondent Blessing Uchendu reports that the Christmas Party featured Santa’s stage appearance, dancing competition, carols, cutting of Christmas cake among others.
