Wayne Rooney recently opened up about a surprising night at David and Victoria Beckham’s house, sharing stories that ranged from casual dinners to hilarious family mishaps.
On The Wayne Rooney Show podcast for the BBC, the football legend recalled being invited, along with his wife Coleen, to a dinner that was far from fancy—but unforgettable.
He said, “Years ago, we got invited to Becks’ for dinner. It was me, Frank Lampard, and a couple more players.
Coleen and I were only 19 at the time, and we thought, ‘This is a bit weird, what’s happening here?’”
Wayne laughed as he remembered wandering around the Beckham home, accidentally bumping Brooklyn’s head.
“I opened the door and bumped his head—he started crying, and I thought, ‘Oh Jesus Christ.’ But it was surreal. We sat down with David and Victoria for dinner…”
Kebabs Over Caviar
When broadcaster Kelly Cates asked if the meal was fancy, Wayne chuckled: “No. We had kebabs.
I know Victoria is famous for sticking to fish and salad, but that night, it was kebabs.
David and Victoria are great fun, way funnier than people give them credit for.”
It was a lighthearted moment that highlighted just how down-to-earth the Beckhams can be, despite their superstar status.
Coleen’s Mischievous Side
Wayne also shared a hilarious memory involving his wife Coleen, who apparently painted his toenails while he slept before joining his first England squad.
“I was asleep on the couch at Coleen’s parents’ house, and she painted my toenails without me knowing. It was some see-through glossy thing, nothing obvious… or so I thought.”
The next day, the team’s physio noticed.
“He said, ‘Have you painted your toenails?’ I was like, ‘No!’ I was fuming. And to make matters worse, the boots I was given were the wrong size.
The first couple of days were a nightmare. I ended up wearing three pairs of socks just to make them fit, and eventually, they sent me the right boots.”
From Fashion Assistant to DIY Ironing
Rooney also reminisced about Coleen’s knack for picking out his outfits.
Before they had kids, she’d lay out his freshly washed and ironed clothes each night so he could just get up and go.
“Now I’ve got to get my own clothes, and I’m fuming,” he admitted.
Kelly joked about the luxury of that arrangement, saying, “Every day? Shouldn’t have had four kids really—you’d probably still be doing it now.”
Wayne laughed, confirming, “She does it for the kids, but I’m on my own now.”
