Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has made a bold promise to fans—Amakhosi will lift the Nedbank Cup at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old winger was instrumental in securing a spot in the final, scoring one of the key goals as Chiefs knocked out Mamelodi Sundowns with a 2-1 win on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld.

Duba Reflects on the Tactical Approach Against Sundowns

After the match, Duba took time to break down how they managed to eliminate their rivals.

“Our main target was Lucas Suarez,” Duba explained.

“We knew he makes a lot of mistakes, so we focused on forcing him to play inside, where he’d end up passing the ball to us.”

The strategy worked perfectly. According to Duba, Sundowns didn’t create many chances throughout the game, with their only real attempt coming from a free kick.

Coach Nabi’s Game Plan Pays Off

Duba also shed light on coach Nabi’s instructions leading up to the match.

“The coach told us not to rush Sundowns,” Duba said in his post-match interview on SuperSport TV.

“We all know how good they are with build-up play, so he encouraged us to wait for moments to capitalize, like when I scored.”

He further explained, “Coach said their left center-back, Suarez, tends to make mistakes.

We needed to set a trap to close him down and force him into making a pass that would lead to an opportunity, which is exactly what happened with my goal.”

A Promising Road Ahead for Chiefs in the Final

Last week, Duba made a bold statement, promising Kaizer Chiefs fans that the team would not only beat Sundowns but go on to win the Nedbank Cup.

With their victory over Sundowns, Amakhosi now face their biggest challenge of the season in the final against old rivals Orlando Pirates.
