WAM signs agreements with four Latin American, Caribbean media organisations at Expo Dubai 2020

DUBAI, 9th February 2022 – As part of its endeavours to strengthen its global presence as a trusted multi-lingual news provider, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) has signed agreements for cooperation and news exchange with four leading TV and radio stations in Latin America and the Caribbean Region.

In a ceremony hosted by the Youth Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, WAM signed the agreements with Arte Radiotelevisivo Argentino (Artear), the Columbian TV network Caracol Television, Chile’s Mega TV Channel and the Dominican-based Noticias SIN.

The four agreements bring the total media cooperation and partnership agreements WAM has signed to date to 15, in continuation of its efforts to strengthen relations with the media organisations in Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, signed the agreements respectively with Carlos de Elía, Senior Executive Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of Artear; Maria Arango, Vice President for Operations, News and Sports in Caracol Television; Alejandra Soto, Director of News Operations at Mega TV; and Alicia Ortega, Vice President of Noticias SIN Group.

The agreements aim to strengthen cooperation between WAM and the four media organisations in news and media content exchange and establish and develop a fruitful media cooperation in accordance with the regulations and legislation adopted by the different countries of the agreements.

Under the agreements, the parties will exchange print and audio-visual news in English and other languages as well as exchanging photos and videos to distribute through their individual platforms and to use in their own bulletins in home countries.

Following the signing, Al Rayssi said the agreements provide a shining example of a global media cooperation that promotes achievements, serves drives for sustainable development and fulfills peoples aspirations across the world.

“The signing of the agreements in Expo 2020 Dubai reflects the success of this globally renowned cultural event hosted by the UAE and highlights its vital role in enhancing international cooperation for a brighter future to humanity.

He expressed the hope for an active participation of the Latin America and Caribbean media organisations at the inaugural edition of the Global Media Congress (GMC), which will be held in Abu Dhabi next November.

He noted that the event will serve as a global platform for partnerships and media cooperation between the UAE and all countries of the world, and a perfectly fit WAM’s strategy for shaping the future of a credible global media industry through close cooperation and constructive partnerships.

The Latina American and Caribbean media officials welcomed cooperation with WAM as a launching pad for new partnerships that will foster cooperation between the UAE and their respective countries.

They underlined the importance of cooperation in various domains in benefitting from the UAE’s dynamic presence in the international arena, its developmental and humanitarian approach, and its initiatives for a more prosperous future on the principles of peace, tolerance, co-existence, solidarity, and human fraternity.

They also referred to the overwhelming success of Expo 2020 Dubai as a culmination of UAE’s strategic vision for the future and its unique capability of turning challenges into opportunities for growth and international cooperation and for a prosperous future for the communities all over the world.

The officials expressed their interest in taking part in the Global Media Congress to contribute to driving international efforts for an exemplary model of global media cooperation and for addressing challenges facing the media industry.
