WAEC Cancels Results, Bars Schools And Exam Centers Forever Over Exam Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has voided the entire results of some candidates who were found guilty of examination malpractices during three of its examinations between 2020 and 2021, including the most recent school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and two previous editions for private candidates.

It has also barred some candidates from taking any of its examinations for two years and cancelled specific topics in the results of others, as well as decertifying some schools as examination centers forever or for a set period of time.
Some supervisors and invigilators will also be sanctioned for their heinous roles in the administration of the numerous exams.
The Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of WAEC, which is the body’s top decision-making committee on examination-related matters, made these choices at its 72nd meeting in Lagos recently.
It remained silent, however, on the exact number of people or schools involved.
All of the committee’s resolutions, including informing all affected candidates, schools, supervisors, and invigilators, would be implemented without delay, according to a communiqué issued by the council’s Public Affairs Department at the end of the meeting and signed by the acting head of the department, Mrs Moyosola Adeyegbe.
The committee also stated that the withheld results of candidates who had been exonerated of wrongdoings would be published immediately, and that it would act on some unusual instances and clemency requests from select WASSCE candidates who are ready for restitution in the year 2021.
The committee also stated that it reviewed the general summary of the Chief Examiners reports on all of the aforementioned tests and found that the question paper and marking guidelines standards were all in conformity with the syllabus and world best practices.
The committee, on the other hand, was pleased with the results of the candidates who took the last school-based test, with over 80% of them doing well, and complimented the WAEC’s administration and other stakeholders on the achievement.
