Abuja is set to host a high-profile governance colloquium this Tuesday, bringing together top policymakers, public sector leaders, and experts to celebrate the 50th birthday of Hadiza Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.

The event promises engaging discussions on leadership, accountability, and public service transformation.

Vice President Kashim Shettima to Lead the Colloquium

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will chair the event, highlighting its national significance.

A keynote address will be delivered by Joe Abah, a distinguished public policy expert, under the theme: “Leadership, Delivery, and the Courage to Serve.”

Attendees can expect thought-provoking insights on how bold and accountable leadership can drive meaningful change in Nigeria.

Panel Discussion on Discipline and Accountability

In addition to the keynote, the colloquium will feature a panel discussion focused on discipline and accountability in the public sector.

The panel boasts an impressive lineup of experts, including Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee; Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, Deputy Governor (Economic Policy) at the Central Bank of Nigeria; and Waziri Adio, founder of Agora Policy and former Executive Secretary of the National Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

Other notable participants include Rinsola Abiola, Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, and Dr. Habiba Lawal, retired Permanent Secretary and former Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination.

The discussions aim to provide practical strategies for sustaining high performance and driving institutional reforms.

A Platform for Policy Dialogue and Transformative Ideas

The event also serves as a strategic forum for senior government officials, private sector leaders, and policy experts to explore the principles of results-based governance.

Organizers say it will offer valuable perspectives on sustainable institutional reform and the kind of courage needed to push transformative change across Nigeria’s public service.

Hadiza Usman: A Trailblazer in Public Service

Hadiza Usman was appointed Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023.

In this role, she leads the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit, ensuring that government policies are implemented effectively across ministries and sectors.

Her career has been marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements.

Usman served as Chief of Staff to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai in 2015 and, in July 2016, became the first female Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority—a position she held until February 2022.

Beyond her government service, Usman co-founded the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign in 2014, which brought worldwide attention to the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls and advocated for their safe return.
