Fans and colleagues alike are reeling from the news that Trevor A Toussaint, the celebrated actor from Hollyoaks, has passed away at the age of 65.
Known for his memorable portrayal of Walter Deveraux on Channel 4’s long-running soap from 2018 to 2022, Trevor’s death marks the end of an era for both the show and the wider British acting community.
Family Shares Heartfelt Message
Trevor’s representatives confirmed the sad news on Instagram, stating:
“It is with deep sadness that we formally announce the passing of Trevor A Toussaint.
His family wish to thank everyone for their kind messages and support as they take this time to privately grieve the loss of a devoted father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend.”
The message highlights Trevor’s role not only as a public figure but as a loving presence in his family’s life.
Tributes Pour In From Colleagues
The actor’s Hollyoaks co-stars and industry friends took to social media to honour his life and career.
Kellé Bryan, who played his on-screen daughter Martine Deveraux, shared an emotional tribute:
“Finding the words has been so hard. Trevor has left an unforgettable imprint on my heart.
I had the privilege of representing him as his agent for over 20 years.
Seeing him play the father in Hollyoaks’ first Black family was truly special.”
She also reflected on Trevor’s pioneering journey in acting, beginning in the 1970s when Black actors were often limited to criminal roles.
Trevor wore his waist-length dreadlocks with pride for over a decade, rejecting opportunities that would have forced him to conform to stereotypes.
“He broke boundaries and paved the way for many others. RIP TT,” she added.
Fellow Stars Remember Trevor
Richard Blackwood, known for playing Felix Westwood in Hollyoaks, shared fond memories:
“My very first scene was with Trevor, and he made me bring my A game!
We became friends on and off-screen.
You will be deeply missed, big bro. RIP sir.”
Jessica Fox, currently portraying Nancy Osborne, also expressed her sorrow:
“Very sad to hear this news.
Trevor was such a gentleman, and I was captivated by the stories of his extraordinary life.”
Hollyoaks Pays Tribute
The show itself honoured Trevor with a statement on social media:
