A peaceful Scottish golf club has been left reeling after a group of youths targeted its greens and bunkers in a shocking act of vandalism.
Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld became the latest victim of such destructive behavior earlier this week.
The Incident on the Antonine Course
According to the club, four boys gained access to the Antonine Course and caused significant damage to the greens and bunkers.
The club described some of the acts as “too vile to share” publicly at this time.
Witnesses captured a picture showing the youths standing near a golf bag on the green, with a club thrown carelessly near the hole.
The sight has sparked outrage among members and the wider community.
Marshals to Patrol the Course
In response, Dullatur Golf Club has announced that it will begin marshalling the course to prevent further incidents.
A statement on Facebook said:
“Unfortunately, we had an incident where four boys jumped onto the Antonine course, caused damage to greens and bunkers amongst other things. The ‘other things’ are so vile that we’ve opted not to share them for the moment until the police have had an opportunity to review further.”
The club also thanked members of the public who helped identify the individuals, confirming that these details have been passed on to the police.
A Growing Problem Across Scotland and the UK
Dullatur is not alone in facing such destruction. Just a few months ago, Clydebank and District Golf Club in Glasgow reported “soul-destroying” damage to its 13th green after vandals targeted the course overnight.
Earlier this year, one of England’s top-ranked courses, Thorndon Park Golf Club in Brentwood, Essex, suffered serious damage when three masked vandals drove quad bikes across fairways and greens.
The destructive joyride caused an estimated £50,000 to £100,000 in damage and was captured on video by a shocked dog walker.
Clubs Responding to Protect Their Grounds
From Scotland to England, golf clubs are increasingly taking action to protect their courses, including marshalling, surveillance, and sharing information with police.
The message is clear: these acts of vandalism not only harm the physical course but also affect the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to keep the greens in top condition.
Dullatur Golf Club has vowed to continue monitoring and alerting members while ensuring safety and preserving the course for future players.
