Van driver hits two elderly women in Lowbourne Melksham leaving them in life threatening condition after reversing accident

What started as an ordinary Saturday afternoon in Melksham quickly turned into a nightmare when two elderly women were left fighting for their lives.

The pair, both in their seventies, were struck by a van while out in Lowbourne around 1:30 p.m.

The Shocking Collision

According to reports, the Ford Transit involved was reversing when it collided with the women.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and both victims were taken to hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Arrest Made Following the Incident

Police confirmed that a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash.

He faces suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving, as well as drug driving.

After questioning, he was released on bail while further investigations continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Sergeant James Twyford from Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit described the situation as a “serious incident” that has left two women in a life-threatening state.

Officers are urging anyone who may have seen what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward and assist with the investigation.
