United Nations, UN has decorated Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano as Champion Of Sustainable Development.
The UN Coordinator on Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon performed the function at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, shortly after embarking on inspection visit with the Governor, to Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.
Mr. Kallon was accompanied by leaders of other International agencies including World Health Organization, WHO and the European Union, EU.
According to Mr. Kallon, the designation is in recognition of ongoing works in infrastructure, health, security and economic growth, spear-headed by the Governor in Anambra State.
While commending the Governor for employing technology in the management of security, Mr. Kallon pointed out that the Governor has been pushing for regional unity to advance development, emphasizing that the United Nations is desirous of increased partnership with the state.
The United Nations Chief applauded the Governor for his signature projects including the Internation Airport, International Convention Center, among others, urging the Governor to ensure to put laws in place, to protect the investments when he leaves office.
He however promised that the UN will support the airport with Migration Data Systems, MIDAS technology, said that the airport is a foundation for economic transportation which is critical for growth and asked ndi Anambra to join hands and protect the investments put in place by the present administration.
He explained that Anambra has gone ahead of many states because of Governor Obiano’s ingeniousness manifested as transperency, accountability and fiscal sustainability which birthed the Anambra Choose Your Project Initiative, advancements in agriculture, among others, and encouraged the Governor and ndi Anambra to maximize their vantage position to grow the economy of the Country and Africa by extention.
Responding, Governor Obiano who spoke about his numerous efforts at ensuring sustainability assured that his successor will continue from where his administration stopped because he has the capacity and reach to catapult the very many things he already put down, to enviable heights.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon were also honoured alongside the Governor.
