On the morning of Friday, March 28, 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) launched another missile attack on the Sudzha gas metering station, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the strike, which occurred around 10:20 AM Moscow time, was carried out using a HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) projectile.
The attack set off a large fire that severely damaged the facility, effectively destroying it.
Massive Fire Engulfs Sudzha Station
Footage from the attack surfaced soon after, showing the station engulfed in flames.
Dramatic video clips displayed the immense scale of the fire, with flames shooting up several meters and thick smoke billowing into the sky.
The attack on this critical infrastructure has further intensified tensions between the two nations.
Ukraine Targets Saratov Region with Drones
In a separate development, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that Ukrainian forces launched 19 attack drones targeting the Saratov region.
These drones aimed at a local oil refinery’s infrastructure, but Russian forces successfully intercepted all of them.
The Russian ministry claimed that the incident was a violation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s previous statements about ceasing attacks on civilian energy infrastructure, dismissing those remarks as a “ruse” to maintain military support from Western allies.
Russian Claims of Attacks on Energy Infrastructure in Kursk and Crimea
The Russian Ministry of Defence has also accused Ukrainian forces of targeting energy infrastructure in the Kursk region.
According to the Russian officials, a drone strike on a facility operated by PJSC Rosseti Center led to a cascading failure of substations, leaving over 4,000 residents in the Khomutovsky district without power.
Additional drone strikes were reported on a Rosseti Center facility in Bryansk and an attempt to attack a gas storage facility in Crimea.
Ukraine Denies Responsibility for Attacks on Russian Territory
However, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine rejected these claims, asserting that Ukrainian forces were not responsible for the attacks on Kursk, Bryansk, or Crimea.
The situation remains tense, with both sides continuing to exchange accusations of violating ceasefire agreements.
Russia Maintains Moratorium on Attacks Against Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
Despite these latest developments, Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the moratorium on strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin’s order to suspend such attacks remains in effect.
This announcement comes amid continued debates and actions surrounding the ongoing conflict and the fate of critical infrastructure in the region.
