Tensions flared once again as Ukrainian forces launched a drone strike deep into Russian territory, targeting a key industrial site in Bashkiria.
The attack focused on the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil-chemical complex, with regional head Radiy Khabirov confirming the incident.
While the strike caused a fire, fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Security Response and Fire Containment Efforts
According to Khabirov, the facility’s defenses—both active and passive—were immediately engaged.
Security personnel opened fire on the incoming drones, but the strike still managed to ignite a blaze on the premises.
Firefighters and emergency crews rushed to contain the fire, working to prevent it from spreading while officials assess the full extent of the damage.
Residents Report Smoke and Chemical Odors
Local residents reported a sharp chemical smell filling the air after the attack.
A towering column of smoke was visible above Salavat, with eyewitnesses noting explosions just before the smoke appeared.
Videos circulating online show firefighters battling the flames as the plume looms over the city.
A History of Drone Attacks in Bashkiria
This is not the first time Ukrainian drones have targeted industrial facilities in the region.
Back in 2024, Khabirov warned residents about potential UAV strikes after a previous attack damaged a pump station at the same complex.
More recently, in early September, the Novoyl refinery in Ufa also came under drone attack, highlighting an ongoing pattern.
Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat’s Strategic Significance
The Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat complex is Russia’s largest oil-chemical facility, handling oil refining as well as the production of mineral fertilizers.
Despite being located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, it remains a key target—underscoring Kyiv’s increasing capability to strike deep into Russian territory.
