UK parliament votes in favour of international sanctions against the Nigerian government due to how the government handled the endSARS protesters.
UK parliament on Monday 23rd of November, 2020, agreed to the notion that Nigerian officials used force on peaceful protesters on the 20th of October, 2020.
The vote is as a result of the petition before the UK parliament, with over 220, 000 signatures.
Government officials and security agents may be sanctioned with visa ban or freezing of assets.
However, Nigerian government continue to deny shooting at the protesters.
UK government answered the petition on the 12th of November, 2020 to sanction Nigerian leaders as “punishment to anyone involved in violation of human rights”.
In their response to the petition, UK parliament said they are concerned about the violence that happened during the endSARS protest and await the investigation of the Nigerian government and their reports of police brutality in the country.
