UK rapper Digga D arrested in Lincoln faces court trial over accusations of large-scale cannabis importation and supply despite admitting smaller transactions

UK drill artist Digga D, whose real name is Rhys Herbert, has become the focus of a significant legal case involving cannabis importation.

The 24-year-old was arrested during an Instagram Live stream in the early hours of February 21, following a police raid at a property near Lincoln.

Admissions and Disputed Allegations

Herbert has admitted to importing 3.6 kilograms of cannabis and supplying it on a social basis.

However, prosecutors allege his involvement extended to a much larger operation, claiming he was part of a commercial supply network dealing with up to 60 kilograms of the drug.

The dispute over the scale of his involvement led to a Newton Hearing at Lincoln Crown Court, where the evidence and arguments were closely examined.

Having pleaded guilty in May to importing cannabis on July 11, 2023, and supplying the drug between October 2022 and February 2024, Herbert acknowledges limited commercial activity.

The defense describes his role as sporadic, with minor profits of £300-£400 per deal, while the prosecution paints a picture of a leading figure in cannabis distribution.

Evidence Presented in Court

The prosecution’s case relies on multiple pieces of evidence, including messages from Herbert’s phone that they claim suggest wholesale activity.

Mobile phone footage of Herbert handling cannabis and complaining about its quality was played in court, alongside photos of him with large sums of cash.

Two sets of weighing scales and a cannabis grinder were also recovered from his London home, further supporting the allegations of significant drug activity.

A drugs expert testified that the recovered messages were consistent with the supply of Skunk cannabis imported from the United States.

The prosecution insists these findings indicate Herbert’s active involvement in the drug trade at a higher level than he has admitted.

Defense Highlights Music Career and Lifestyle

Herbert’s lawyer, James Scobie KC, argued that the rapper’s legitimate earnings from his music career, which exceed £3 million, were his primary source of income.

The defense emphasized that Herbert’s cannabis usage was heavy, and his supply of the drug was primarily social, limited to his entourage in the music industry.

At the time of the raid, four people were living with Herbert at his Bracebridge Heath property near Lincoln, all of whom were part of his inner circle.

The defense maintains that Herbert’s actions were not those of a major drug dealer, but rather someone engaging in occasional sales to acquaintances.

The Future of a Prominent Drill Artist

Digga D, one of the leading figures in UK drill, boasts millions of views on his tracks and was slated to headline several high-profile festivals in 2024.

His arrest and ongoing legal troubles have put his career on hold, leaving fans and the music industry wondering about his future.

Currently, Herbert remains in custody at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, following the court proceedings via video link.

As the two-day hearing continues, the court’s decision will determine the impact of these allegations on both his personal life and his career.
