UK PRIME MINISTER LIZ TRUSS CALL WITH UKRAINE PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY | 28 SEPTEMBER 2022

This afternoon, the Prime Minister talked with President Zelenksyy to express the UK’s unwavering support in light of Russia’s fake referendums in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister made it quite clear that the United Kingdom will never recognise Russian efforts to grab sovereign land. She reaffirmed that Ukraine could rely on the backing of the United Kingdom until President Putin was defeated.

President Zelenskyy informed the Prime Minister on the present military situation and thanked her for her support, particularly last week at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Prime Minister praised President Zelenksyy for his efforts to secure the release of five British people detained in eastern Ukraine by Russian-backed militias.

The leaders also addressed how the United Kingdom and Ukraine should work together to ensure Ukraine’s long-term gas supply.

Both parties agreed to maintain close contact in the coming days and weeks.
