Collaboration between the BBC, commercial stations, and government will be key to achieving that.”

Building on Previous Work

This review follows a 2021 Radio and Audio Review, which recommended continuing FM broadcasts until at least 2030 while revisiting the possibility of an analogue switch-off.

The current review aims to provide updated guidance and policy advice, particularly in light of accelerated digital adoption and the rise of AI technologies.

The UK government has also recently increased support for community radio, raising the Community Radio Fund to over £1 million to support nearly 50 stations across the country, signalling a commitment to preserving local voices.
