In a thrilling Round 5 clash earlier this season, Maties edged out UCT Ikeys with a 31-24 win.

Coach Fleck’s Optimism for a Memorable Final
This is the third consecutive final for UCT Ikeys, and head coach Robbie Fleck is determined to make this one count.
“There’s no bigger game for our guys if they can’t host a final — is to play a final against Maties at the Danie Craven,” Fleck shared.
He added that the excitement and energy surrounding the game are palpable for the players, and the rivalry is only adding to the anticipation.
Experience and Preparation Will Be Key
For Fleck, experience will be one of the keys to success in the final.
“This is our third final in a row now, and there’s been a number of players who’ve been part of those finals,” he said.
“We’ve got to treat it like another game, go through our processes, focus on us, and enjoy the week.”
Fleck believes the hard work done in training will translate into success on the field, and he is confident his team’s preparation will see them through.
The Ikey Tigers’ Winning Style
The Ikey Tigers have built a reputation for their distinctive playing style, and Fleck is clear that sticking to their strengths will be crucial in the final.
“We know that all finals are played at another intensity altogether, but we’re going to get it right at training, and we mainly focus on our style,” Fleck explained.
“That’s the key thing for us — we play a certain brand, and that’s part of the Ikey way.”
Expectations for an Intense and Memorable Finale
Looking ahead to the final, Fleck has high hopes for another thrilling match.
“It was an excellent game of rugby last time out. We played really well, and it was a close game in the end,” he recalled.
“We were able to put them under pressure, probably for the first time this year, and we would like to think that we’ll do the same in the final.”
