Tyson Fury considers dramatic return to boxing as talk of Anthony Joshua showdown resurfaces in the UK fight scene

For years, fans have dreamed of seeing Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua go toe-to-toe in the ring—a clash of British boxing giants that has always felt just out of reach.

But now, whispers are growing louder that this long-awaited showdown might finally happen, despite Fury claiming he’s retired once again.

Fury “Retired”… But Is He Really Done?

Tyson Fury, now 36, announced in January that he was stepping away from boxing for the fourth time.

His decision followed back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, marking a rough patch in the latter part of his career.

Yet, those close to the sport aren’t entirely convinced he’s truly hanging up his gloves for good.

Even after declaring his retirement, Fury revealed he’s still training twice a day—hardly the routine of a man who’s done with the fight game.

Considering his track record of retiring and returning, it’s no surprise fans are sceptical this time around too.

The Joshua Fight That Never Was

Despite memorable bouts against names like Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko, Fury has never managed to share a ring with Anthony Joshua.

Their paths have nearly crossed several times, but a string of unfortunate events—contracts, court rulings, and shock losses—always got in the way.

They were nearly locked in for a blockbuster fight back in 2020 when both men held all four major heavyweight titles.

But before things could be finalized, a U.S. judge ordered Fury to complete his trilogy with Wilder, effectively scrapping plans for the Joshua bout.

Frank Warren Keeps the Door Open

Fury’s longtime promoter Frank Warren recently weighed in on the situation, telling Sky Sports that he hasn’t spoken to Tyson about a return, nor does he plan to push him.

Still, Warren admits the idea of finally staging the Joshua fight is enticing.

“He’s enjoying life with his family,” Warren said. “He’s set for life and doesn’t need boxing.

But Tyson’s a natural-born fighter—you never really know with him.”

And when it comes to the prospect of facing Joshua? “That fight would tempt all of us,” Warren admitted.

“It’s the one everyone still wants to see—a true generational battle.”

Joshua Still Reeling From Dubois Defeat

Meanwhile, Joshua’s career has also taken a hit. He hasn’t stepped into the ring since a devastating knockout by Daniel Dubois last September in front of a massive crowd at Wembley.

Dropped multiple times, Joshua couldn’t recover, and the loss has cast a shadow over his comeback hopes.

That fight might have had larger implications than expected.

Watching from ringside, Fury shouted in frustration that Joshua’s loss cost him a fortune—claiming, perhaps only half-jokingly, “That’s cost me £150 million, the silly c***.”

Will the Battle of Britain Ever Happen?

Despite all the setbacks and delays, both fighters have shown interest in making it happen.

Whether it’s pride, legacy, or the massive payday that lures them back into talks, fans are hoping that 2025 might finally be the year we see the two titans clash.

For now, it’s a waiting game. Fury’s camp is quiet. Joshua is recovering.

But in boxing, things can change with a single phone call—and this particular bout still has the power to electrify the sport like nothing else.
