After months of concern from friends, family, and fans, former child star Tylor Chase is now receiving critical medical care in a Southern California hospital.
The actor, best known for his role on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, has been struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, prompting a concerted effort to get him help over the Christmas holiday.
Friends and Family Rally to Chase’s Side
Daniel Curtis Lee, Chase’s former co-star from the Nickelodeon show, revealed that the actor’s father reached out to Jacob “Jake” Harris, an L.A.-based influencer and business owner, to intervene.
Harris coordinated a same-day evaluation through a crisis center on Christmas Eve, which led to Chase being admitted for 72 hours of immediate care.
“He’s in good hands now,” Harris told the Daily Mail.
“The future is looking bright. He just needed someone to actually step in and help.”
Shaun Weiss Lends a Guiding Hand
Harris’ involvement was inspired in part by his connection to Shaun Weiss, the former Mighty Ducks star, who battled addiction and has since been in recovery.
Weiss publicly appealed for help for Chase, sharing that he had secured a bed for him at a detox facility and long-term treatment.
While initial attempts to get Chase to commit to treatment did not fully succeed, Weiss and Harris continued their efforts, contacting local authorities and friends to ensure he would receive the care he needs.
“Tyler seemed receptive at first but then got spooked,” Weiss explained.
“He said, ‘I like my life the way it is,’ but I can assure you, he doesn’t actually like it.”
Moments on the Street Highlight the Struggle
Chase was recently spotted braving rainy Southern California streets, accepting clothing from Good Samaritans who prayed with him for his well-being.
Wearing a red coat over a black hoodie with gray pants and black sneakers, he thanked those helping him and showed signs of resilience despite difficult circumstances.
Police reports indicate that Chase has generally been cooperative but had previously declined shelter, drug, or mental health services.
Harris described spending an hour with Chase, along with calls from his father and co-stars, encouraging him to accept help and make decisions in his own time.
Former Co-Star Support and Fond Memories
Lee, who played Simon “Cookie” Nelson-Cook on Ned’s Declassified, shared that he had been deeply saddened to see his childhood friend struggling.
Despite not being in close contact for years, Lee made time to FaceTime Chase, reminisce about simpler days, and offer encouragement.
“Despite the rough exterior shaped by years on the street, I can still see the light in Tylor’s eyes, which gives me hope,” Lee said.
He also reached out to Chase’s mother, Paula, who emphasized that giving money directly could be harmful but reassured that her door remains open.
A Heartfelt Message to Family
Before entering treatment, Chase was seen near a Riverside, California 7-Eleven, dressed in a tattered purple jacket, oversized T-shirt, and dark pants.
In a private moment with his mother, he said simply, “I love you. I’ll talk to you soon.”
Chase has a history of sharing his inner struggles through moody and poignant videos, including a 2014 clip titled Bipolar, in which he described feeling trapped by his mental health.
“I’m a leaf in a running gutter with the inevitable fate of ending up in a drain,” he said, highlighting the long-standing challenges he’s faced.
Fans and Community Hope to Light the Way
The outpouring of support from fans and former colleagues continues to play a crucial role in Chase’s recovery.
Friends, family, and well-wishers are urging respect for his privacy while celebrating the first steps toward a healthier future.
With professional care now in place and loved ones rallying around him, Tylor Chase’s story is moving into a new chapter — one where hope and healing are finally within reach.
