Tottenham Hotspur Secures Xavi Simons in £51.8million Deal from RB Leipzig to Strengthen Midfield in North London

After a summer of speculation and missed targets, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly sealed a deal to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons for a reported £51.8million.

The north London club moved decisively after failing to secure other midfield options, including Morgan Gibbs-White, Savinho, and Eberechi Eze.

Simons Given Green Light to Join Spurs

The 22-year-old Netherlands international, known for his versatility in attack, was allowed by Leipzig to leave their training camp to finalise the transfer.

Simons, who can operate as a dynamic number 10 or drift wide, flew to London on Thursday with his advisors to complete the move.

Medical Completed as Deal Nears Finalisation

According to The Athletic, Spurs’ £51.8million bid has been accepted, and Simons has successfully completed his medical.

He is now putting the finishing touches on his exit from Leipzig before officially becoming a Tottenham player.

Spurs Act Fast After Eze Deal Collapse

Tottenham were eager to finalise this signing quickly following the failed attempt to land Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

With the midfield window closing, the club saw Simons as the perfect solution to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea Fans Left Frustrated After Long Pursuit

Simons had also been in talks with Chelsea throughout the summer, with personal terms agreed and the player keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Blues did not submit a firm bid, prioritising sales to meet UEFA financial rules.

With Christopher Nkunku nearing a move to AC Milan and Chelsea targeting Alexandre Garnacho from Manchester United, the window slipped away for them.

Reaction on Social Media Highlights Fan Frustration

Chelsea supporters quickly took to social media to express their disbelief at losing out on Simons.

One fan wrote: “If it was some unknown kid we’d have paid asking price already…what are they doing? Surely we need a backup for Palmer now with Nkunku gone.”

Another added: “It’s really crazy, after waiting, Nkunku sold, and now he’s gone to Tottenham, crazy stuff.”

Leipzig Open to Economic Sense in Transfer

Earlier this month, RB Leipzig’s Sporting Director Marcel Schafer explained the club’s stance, saying: “We know his great ambitions to play in a top league for a title contender.

He wants to prove himself at the highest level. If it makes economic sense, we’re open.

But only then. If it doesn’t make financial sense for us, we look forward to another season with this outstanding player.”
