In a moment that shocked fans and rocked headlines, rapper Tory Lanez was the victim of a violent prison attack earlier this month.
Already serving a 10-year sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez was stabbed 14 times inside a California prison — an incident that was all caught on camera.
The harrowing footage, obtained by The Shade Room, shows the 42-year-old artist being ambushed in broad daylight by another inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12.
The Brutal Attack Caught on Camera
The 39-second surveillance video is difficult to watch.
Lanez is seen stepping out of his cell and pausing near a staircase.
Suddenly, another inmate — identified as Santino Casio — rushes at him without warning.
The stabbing starts while Lanez is still upright, but he quickly crumples to the ground.
Around the 21-second mark, the attacker continues to jab down repeatedly as Lanez struggles on the floor, clearly in pain and trying to shield himself.
Throughout the attack, Lanez can be heard screaming “Oh God” as no one intervenes.
Eventually, he manages to crawl away and flee down the stairs, disappearing from the camera’s view as the video ends.
Gruesome Aftermath and Lanez’s Injuries
Shortly after the incident, Lanez’s team released a statement detailing the severity of his injuries.
According to them, he was stabbed 14 times — with seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to his face.
His injuries were so serious that both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing machine.
Despite everything, his reps say he’s now breathing on his own.
“He is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the statement added.
Lanez also reportedly expressed gratitude for everyone’s continued support and prayers.
Prison Authorities Respond to the Attack
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the attack occurred around 7:20 a.m.
Prison staff responded quickly, calling 911 and administering medical aid before Lanez was taken to an outside hospital.
Pedro Calderón Michel, the department’s deputy press secretary, said the rapper was transported to a civilian facility for treatment.
TMZ reported that he was rushed to a hospital in Bakersfield, about an hour away.
Now, an investigation is underway involving the prison’s Investigative Services Unit, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Inspector General.
A Look Back: Why Tory Lanez Is Behind Bars
Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a decade-long sentence for a high-profile case that made national headlines.
Nearly five years ago, he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during a heated argument after a party at Kylie Jenner’s house in the Hollywood Hills.
He was convicted in December 2022 on three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Megan Thee Stallion’s Emotional Testimony
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez yelled at her to “dance” before shooting at her feet.
She later needed surgery to remove bullet fragments.
“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan said in a powerful statement shared before sentencing.
“Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
Judge David Herriford acknowledged the positive accounts of Lanez shared by his supporters but said they couldn’t erase what had happened.
“Sometimes good people do bad things,” he remarked during sentencing. “Actions have consequences, and there are no winners in this case.”
Lanez’s Plea and Legal Appeal
Before receiving his sentence, Lanez expressed deep regret, calling Megan a friend and saying he still cared about her.
“If I could turn back the series of events that night and change them, I would,” he said in court.
He was given credit for 10 months already served, having been in custody since December 2022.
His lawyer, Jose Baez, criticized the sentence as excessive and claimed it was meant to “set an example” because of Lanez’s celebrity status.
In February, Lanez filed an appeal, with his legal team arguing that the case involved prosecutorial misconduct and the wrongful admission of evidence.
Megan’s Resilience and Ongoing Support
Prosecutors praised Megan Thee Stallion for her bravery throughout the trial, especially as she faced online hate and mockery.
LA County District Attorney George Gascón said, “I hope that Miss Pete’s bravery gives hope to those who feel helpless.”
Despite being incarcerated, Lanez has remained active on social media.
Just last week, a photo surfaced on his Instagram showing him with others in what appeared to be a prison setting.
