What started as a typical evening at London’s bustling St Pancras International took a violent turn Monday night, when political firebrand Tommy Robinson allegedly knocked out an older man during a heated argument.
Witnesses say the confrontation escalated fast, leaving bystanders in shock.
A Verbal Spat Turns Physical in Seconds
One eyewitness told the Daily Mail they were heading toward a train platform when they overheard shouting.
When they got to the top of the escalator, they saw Robinson squaring off with an older man.
According to the witness, Robinson shouted, “Come at me then,” before delivering a punch that reportedly knocked the man unconscious on the spot.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8:40 p.m., and the injured man was taken to a major trauma centre with what officials described as serious injuries.
Robinson Leaves the Scene as Bystanders Call for Help
Shortly after the punch, video footage circulating online showed the aftermath: the man motionless on the floor, while a visibly agitated Robinson paced nearby.
One bystander can be heard urgently yelling, “Can we get some help over here!” as security tried to assess the situation.
Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was seen walking away, throwing up his arms and repeatedly claiming, “He came at me, bruv,” as he descended a nearby staircase.
Witness and Online Responses Divide Public Opinion
The person who recorded the aftermath noted that the victim didn’t appear to be wearing anything over his face at the time of the punch, contrary to speculation online.
“I just hope the old man is okay,” they added, pointing out the abundance of CCTV cameras that may help police review the full incident.
Meanwhile, Robinson had posted earlier footage from inside the station, where he was handing out flyers promoting a “free speech” rally scheduled for September 13.
Robinson Leaves the UK Hours After Incident
In a twist, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that Robinson boarded a flight out of the country in the early hours of the next morning, sparking a manhunt.
Despite being under investigation, Robinson has remained active on social media while abroad — even posting a meme of a dog wearing sunglasses, seemingly downplaying the situation.
Supporters Claim Self-Defence While Police Investigate
Robinson reposted tweets defending his actions, including one that framed the incident as a pre-emptive strike, claiming that he had a right to defend himself from physical threats.
One tweet read, “If you approach someone with hostility… expect to get a clip round the ear hole.”
Still, BTP issued a statement saying detectives are working “closely to progress the investigation and bring him into custody for questioning.”
A History of Controversy and Conflict
This isn’t Robinson’s first brush with legal trouble.
Just last year, he was reportedly orchestrating far-right unrest from a luxury resort in Cyprus while avoiding a UK arrest warrant.
He insisted at the time he was simply on a family vacation.
In October, Robinson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for breaching a High Court injunction related to false claims about a Syrian refugee.
He served seven months before having his sentence reduced on appeal.
Plans for Upcoming “Free Speech” Rally Still in Motion
Despite his ongoing legal troubles, Robinson is pressing ahead with plans for a large protest in central London this September.
In one video posted hours before the St Pancras incident, he claimed to be walking the route for what he called “the biggest free speech event the world has ever seen.”
He described the upcoming event as a “festival of fun and British identity”, and said organisers were working “cooperatively” with the police.
Police and Ambulance Services Respond to the Assault
A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service confirmed they responded to an emergency call at 8:40 p.m. and transported the injured man to a major trauma centre.
The British Transport Police also issued a fresh call for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage of the incident.
They urged the public to text 61016, quoting reference 655 of 28 July.
What Comes Next?
As the investigation continues, all eyes are on Robinson — both for his potential return to the UK and for what unfolds at his planned September rally.
With video evidence, witness accounts, and a very public flight from the country, pressure is mounting for authorities to take swift legal action.
