Tom Homan Defends Trump Administration’s Border Policies
In a recent interview, Tom Homan, the U.S. border czar, addressed Pope Francis’ concerns about the U.S. government’s mass deportation program.
Homan, who served under the Trump administration, strongly defended the approach, stating that these policies were essential in saving lives and fighting human trafficking.
Homan explained that the main focus of the administration’s border enforcement efforts was on national security and public safety, emphasizing that these priorities were clear from the start.
“President Trump and I have always been very clear that our main goal is to protect the safety of our citizens,” Homan said during his Feb. 13 appearance on EWTN’s “The World Over with Raymond Arroyo.”
Dignity of Deportees
When asked about the treatment of deportees, Homan, who is a lifelong Catholic, firmly responded that the administration’s actions absolutely respect the dignity of those being deported.
He emphasized that strong border enforcement policies directly contribute to the reduction of tragic deaths and the exploitation that migrants often face.
Border Enforcement Saves Lives
Homan also highlighted that tough border enforcement prevents many of the horrific experiences migrants endure while attempting to cross into the U.S.
For instance, he pointed out that a significant percentage of female migrants are sexually assaulted during their journey through dangerous cartel-controlled areas.
He posed a crucial question, asking, “When illegal immigration is reduced by 90%, how many women are not being assaulted? How many children are not dying while crossing the river? How many people aren’t falling victim to sex trafficking or dying from fentanyl poisonings?” According to Homan, the Trump administration’s policies have directly saved countless lives.
The Right to a Secure Border
Homan further asserted the U.S.’s right to maintain a secure border, drawing a parallel to the Vatican’s sovereignty.
He said, “Just like the Vatican has the right to defend its territory, we have the same right to protect our border and our sovereignty.”
Vatican’s Stricter Policies
In a comparison of border enforcement, Homan pointed out that the Vatican itself has imposed some of the toughest penalties for illegal entry, including heavy fines ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 and prison sentences lasting from one to four years.
He remarked that these penalties are even more severe than those currently in place in the U.S.,
further illustrating the global importance of maintaining strong borders.
