Tiger Woods faced a rather awkward moment on Tuesday night during his match in the TGL indoor league, when a mix-up with his caddie led to a major blunder on the course.
Playing for Jupiter Links, Woods was lined up to hit a shot from 199 yards out on the 13th hole.
However, he misheard his caddie, who said “99” yards instead of the correct 199.
The Hilarious Mix-Up That Left Woods Scratching His Head
Caddies sometimes shorten the distance if it’s obvious, but it seems Woods didn’t catch on and went ahead with a wedge shot.
The result? His ball landed a full 100 yards short of the green, leaving Woods and his teammates, Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim, in disbelief.
The whole thing turned into a comedy moment, with Kisner and Kim laughing so hard they fell to the floor.
Woods, red-faced, tried to figure out how the mistake happened, calling it “one of the most embarrassing moments” of his career.
Despite the blunder, he was able to laugh it off during the ESPN broadcast, saying, “I just screwed up. That was embarrassing.”
A Tough Night for Woods as He Loses to Cameron Young
The mistake certainly didn’t help his game, as Woods went on to lose the 13th hole to Cameron Young from the New York Golf Club.
Ultimately, New York triumphed with a 10-3 victory, but the night was about more than just the match for Woods.
Returning to the Course After a Heartbreaking Loss
Woods’ appearance in the TGL match was his first time back on the course since the death of his mother, Kultida Woods, who passed away on February 4 at the age of 80.
It was a deeply emotional moment for the golf legend, who walked out at the SoFi Center in Florida alongside his 16-year-old son, Charlie.
Before the match, Woods opened up to ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt about the sadness of returning to the SoFi Center, a venue where his mother had watched him play just days before her passing.
“It’s a process,” Woods shared, reflecting on how emotional it was to be back.
“This was the last time she ever watched me play.
It’s a bit emotional coming in here tonight.”
Woods’ return to the course, despite the emotional weight of the loss, showed his resilience, even though the night’s events took a comical turn with his shot mistake.
